A sky performance called “Encounter of the Milky Way” will be held in Uji. A spectacular sky Tanabata show will be held, depicting the Milky Way that meets once a year in the night sky! We will reexamine the meaning and legend of the ancient Tanabata festival, which is “making a wish once a year,” and while inheriting this tradition, we will hold a modern Tanabata festival unique to Kyoto, fusing it with the “Kyoto Tanabata” held all over Kyoto, and holding an emotional “Kyoto Tanabata in Uji” that exudes the atmosphere of Uji.
Uji has flourished as a key transportation hub since ancient times, was a place where aristocrats had other occupations during the Heian period, and was also the setting for the Uji Chapter of The Tale of Genji. It is a city associated with Murasaki Shikibu, and is steeped in history and culture. Enjoy the “Encounter of the Milky Way,” a skyscape created with the latest lighting and a reproduction of the color temperature of light that evokes the lighting of candles during the Heian period.
